Comrade's: It is our creed and our Honor to : Honor our dead by serving the living. And one of those services we do is helping our vets in getting to the Veterans Hospitals. I know personally, it is a honor and a service that has deep spiritual rewards. Just knowing that, in a small way, I have helped another veteran and my fellow man. This service is not, in any means, a chore, a requirement by any set standards, but much more. It is an act of love, for our comrades and fellow man. There is no set by laws for this service. There is no responsibility to see that this service is carried out. And, their is no one particular one in charge. It is open to anyone who wants to share in the love and assist their fellow comrade. " As we left no comrade behind in the theaters we served in, left us not leave any comrade behind that needs our help and service. " Unfortunately, this service has a set back. It has expenses. With the cost of fuel today, ($2.69 a gallon) , it puts a heavy expense on those who offer their help in this issue. Take a small vehicle with a four cylinder motor that gets 19-20 mpg. It takes $15.00 dollars to pull a round trip to Ft. Worth ( bigger vehicles with bigger engines take quite a bit more.) And, to Dallas it takes around, at the least $25.00. So, if you are needing help , in getting to the Veteran's Hospitals. Remember , the person taking you is more than likely like you , either on a fixed income , or has a job and trying to support a family. My reason for this subject is , not to bring any animosity among anyone. But much more, to help everyone realize the fact that this service does cost and that our post will continue serving our veterans in this as long as we can prevail. The National Home is very close to earning its fourth minivan from the Campbell’s Labels for Education Program. In the last five years, through the combined efforts of Ladies Auxiliaries and their members, Junior Girls Units, VFW Posts and their members, dedicated volunteers, residents and staff, the National Home has acquired three minivans. In early June, the National Home has turned in just over a million UPC codes, and all that is needed to get another van is about 400,000 more! We are confident that all of our supporters can join together to help us reach this magnificent milestone. Please send in any UPC codes that you have by August 10. | This minivan will help the National Home in transporting children to school and church activities, sports practices, dance and music lessons and doctor appointments. FROM THE COMMANDER’S DESK Well it’s coming September and we will have a 9-11 Remembrance Ceremony. The time will be at 9:03 am, the very time that Flight 93 went down in Pennsylvania. Our Past Commander is back with our National Community Service Award. He should also have some good stories about the National Convention and Kansas City, Missouri. We are struggling to keep our Tuesday Night Dinner and Dance going, we need HELP! Cooks, helpers, etc. If anyone would like to take a turn at Tuesday Night Dinner Cooking, please step up. If you would like to cook but have no helpers talk to me or Wayne Kelly, Sr. Vice Commander, and we will try to help you get help. Also, keep in mind that we will start planning our Senior Thanksgiving Dinner soon and will need help with that. THE VFW BELONGS TO ALL OF US AS WELL AS ALL AUXILIARY MEMERS. COME OUT AND ENJOY IT. Commander Lamar Crounse 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony Welcome, and thank you for coming to this remembrance ceremony that marks the fifth anniversary of 9/11. September 11th, 2001 was a day of terror, and a day of heroism. A day of heartless cruelty, and a day of selfless compassion. A day of grief, and a day of resolve. A day of incomprehension, and a day of awakening. POW/MIA Ceremony Observances of National POW/MIA Recognition Day are held across the country on military installations, ships at sea, state capitols, schools and veterans' facilities.
